01THE WORK BEHIND THE PLATFORM
I’ve worked across the security field as an end user, security manager, physical-security integrator, consultant, educator, and practitioner responsible for helping organizations make difficult decisions under real-world conditions.
Those different vantage points have reinforced the same lesson: targeted violence prevention is rarely limited by a complete absence of information. More often, the information exists in fragments. One person notices a change. Another receives a troubling message. Someone else understands the grievance, the recent loss, the access, or the operational vulnerability. The failure occurs when those pieces remain separated or when the organization lacks a disciplined process for deciding what they mean.
Prevention is possible, even when it can never be guaranteed.
That belief doesn’t rest on prediction or hindsight. It rests on the practical value of early reporting, multidisciplinary collaboration, structured assessment, proportionate intervention, and continued case management. These capabilities shouldn’t be limited to the largest or best-resourced organizations.
